Does anyone know how a handicam model Sony CCD-TR490E can be connected to a computer ?
I tried attaching a USB cable but the camera is not detected by the computer. The camera is a 1996 model one. Anyone has any ideas ?

is that this camcorder came with an AV cable – the same one to connect to a TV or VCR.
I do not see anything about USB or Firewire ports. So…
Assuming you have the AV cable, you will need to connect that to an analog/digital bridge.
You will need the AV cable even if you use an S-Video cable because the AV cable carries the audio – S-Video carries video only.
If you have a firewire port on your camcorder, something like the Canopus bridges will do it… http://canopus.com/products/videoconversion.php

My guess is that camcorder can take stills – that is what the USB cable might be used for – if not, you will need some sort of driver – and whether Sony has new drivers for XP or Vista is anybody’s guess…
