could anyone help me to answering the following questions?
(a) How is light split up into its colours in a TV camera?
(b)What is meant by Depth of Field?
(c)Comment on the relative flexibility of tube and CCD cameras in accommodating different TV standards.
(d)Why have CCD cameras largely superseded tube cameras?
(e)How is the brightness on a CRT video display related to the input video signal?
(a) By using prisms and mirrors, the incoming light path is split into 3 equal but separate paths. Each path is run through a color filter, one for red, one for green, and one for blue. Each filtered light path is focused onto the corresponding imaging device (CCD or tube face); one for red, one for green, one for blue.
(b) Depth of field is the range of distances from the CCD or tube face for which things are in focus. The iris of the optics is the main determining factor. If the iris is very small opening (like a pinhole), then almost everything in the field of view will be in focus (except stuff really close). If the iris is wide open, then only a narrow range of items will be in focus (example: something that is between 10 feet and 10 feet 1 inch away).
(c) Both tube imagers and CCDs can accomodate different TV standards. For HDTV, it is the shape of the imaging face and the amount of pixels (on the CCD) that will determine what resolution is achieved (720, 1080, etc.)
(d) CCDs are used widely because:
1. they consume far less power than tubes
2. they (now) have the same resolution as tubes
3. they (now) have the same contrast ratio as tubes
4. they do not require complex setup, as tubes do.
(e) the input video signal contains a range of voltage levels. For video inside a TV the lowest voltages are for synchronization, at a certain voltage above the synchronization levels is “black” or darkest, the highest voltages are “white” or brightest. (note: for video that is broadcast, or on cable, the voltage levels are opposite how they appear inside the TV.)
